Victoriana Cards....so sweet....

My daughter and I have been making Victoriana inspired greeting cards. Inspired by all things Downton Abbey (and can you believe that Series 6 will be the last....gasp and sob!!!), we made these sweet ones to give to friends who have birthdays coming up.

We found the images online and simply printed them out, cutting them to fit our designs....

....some black cardstock, and paper serving doileys, make a gorgeous cameo inspired combination....

.....along with pink or black velvet ribbon and some classic black and white spotted satin ribbon, and some sweet rhinestone look scrapbooking buckles gifted to me by my friend Annabel...

....some really pretty effects were achieved....

How are you spending your Sunday?

...Mimi...

  3. Mimi, I picked up some paper doileys in a shop the other day as I thought they looked so pretty but couldn't work out what to make with them. Now I know! I love those buckles that Annabel uses. I will have to pick her brains to find out where she gets them from :-)

    2. Hi Nanna and Wendy. Would you believe, Officeworks have them in the invitation supplies area with all the fancy papers. Spotlight have them in the scrapbooking section too. And they're always available on eBay. Mimi xxx

  4. Mimi, they look fabulous! I was interested to see how they worked out when you'd mentioned about the pictures on Annabel's blog. I have some paper doileys here. Thanks so much for the inspiration and ideas xo

    1. Thankyou Kaye! Yes, aside from perching pretty petit fours upon them, paper doyleys have many papercrafting benefits. Mimi xxx

  5. They turned out so luxe and stylish! Ok I'm inspired and I have some velvet ribbon. I really love velvet. I have deep burgundy and navy blue both quite wide and being wasted... Also some bling. I will dream up what I can do. These are keepsake worthy! Xxx

    1. Thankyou Annabel. The velvet ribbon is just so luxurious isn't it? Burgundy and Navy Blue sound gorgeous. My imagination is already in overdrive with those colours! I've just ordered some rhinestone buckle sliders to make some real one-ff special ones for a school fundraiser. I think I'll do those and some other pretties like your beautiful wrapped soaps, for the Mothers Day stall for the Dance students actually. Such fun and such an opulent result for very little money. Thankyou for your continuing inspiration. Mimi xxx

  6. Love the cards Mimi, cannot wait until I can make some myself. I do have plans to redo my recipe cards - it will take me quite a bit of time to do this but I want pretty and I have the perfect tin to keep them in, toying with the idea of laminating them so that they can be wiped over if splashed.

Yes I heard that season 6 was going to be the last and I thought it must be an April fools joke but alas it is true.

    1. Lynette, what a superb idea! I could see vintage recipes from old magazines, glued to card, embellished with little decals, and laminated. I love it! Stored in a vintage tin, what a truly beautiful gift or keepsake that would be! I'm so sad about the end of Downton Abbey. How does one become so attached to a fictitious family for goodness sakes...lol! Mimi xxx

  7. Beautiful cards Mimi. I spent part of Sunday card making too I bought some see through stamps from Kmart for just over $5 a pack. I'm very impressed with the quality.
I have been using doilies on some of my cards. You've given me some new ideas. Do you use a silver or gold pen on the inside of the card ?

    1. Hi Wendy. I actually glue another paper doiley on the inside of the cards so I can write on them in normal pen. Silver or gold pen is a stroke of genius I have to say! Mimi xxx

    1. Thankyou for your sweet comment. Don't you just want to dive in and wear the clothes and dance the dances and wander the gardens every time you watch Downton Abbey? Whatever will we do instead? I guess the DVD collections will feed our addiction....lol! Mimi xxx
