Adapting to the life of a 9-5 job!

Well this is all a bit different...says me at the end of my first six weeks in my suddenly corporate role...

Most days, the only free will I have, is what colour to wear...

...which has actually turned out to be a bit of fun, because I have several people in the office also wearing The Colour of The Day...

I am enjoying getting dressed up every morning. I feel like I'm donning my armour...or a costume perhaps...

And never fear, I'm still marinating my own feta..and chicken...and steak. You know me. Ever the Earth Mother even in the face of Corporate Silliness.

Meanwhile, must have nails to match the outfit.

That fills in half an hour in the evenings, whilst Husband and The Diva prepare the meal for common consumption. And clean up for me. What? How did I not twig to this sooner? Work at the office...family takes care of the rest. Oh, that's right...it's my brilliant example and subterfuge brainwashing of them on the merits of cleaning the fridge before one shops, and DIY-ing most of what we need that's done the trick.

Go me, right?

Of course thrifting is all the more simple now that I have a thrift store immediately below my office.

Behold...accessories galore.

It really is true that you can double or triple the number of outfits you have, simply by wearing different accessories. Just as well I have a vast collection of said accessories. I knew all that stuff was going to come in handy!

Working and earning meant that a new Christmas tree was in the budget.

This one has built-in lights...what is this sorcery??

And of course, even in the Tropics, we like to pretend we're having a snuggly White Christmas so festive decorating includes throw rugs.

How could I resist?

I could not have anticipated the changes in our lives this year.

My disabled son has a sweetheart.

My daughter auditioned amongst 800 hopefuls to secure one of just 16 places in a prestigious performing arts course, so she will move Universities in 2019. She also met her beau at the first university, so perhaps that was meant to be.

I have this new job, with all of it's learning and rewards.

And life is never the same two Christmasses in a row.

You too?

Merry Christmas my dear friends. May the blessings of the festive season be upon you all.

  1. Oh, I can just imagine everyone in that corporate building following your lead and dressing to the nines each day! I bet you have brought that ol' place of business up a notch or two! It sounds as if you are enjoying your new life to the max. Fabulous that your daughter and husband are looking after you with the cooking and tidying up after the evening mean. How wonderful your daughter was accepted into her new course and I am so happy your son has fallen in love.....it's all happening there isn't it. 3. Mimi what a wonderful year it has been for you and your family. I was frightened that once you were in the corporate world that we'd lose you in our online family, instead you have brought just as much joy and inspiration to us through your new busier, different life.
Wishing you and your family a truly special Christmas full of love and laughter and lots of cuddles.

    1. Maria, I do wonder about the outfit postings sometimes. I am getting traffic from some very odd sources. I think I'll stick to our small private group in future! I'd laugh, but it's almost 'not' funny! Mimi xxx

  7. Accessories are the go! I too get home from work and DH has cooked our evening meal. He does a great job and enjoys it. I did do all the cooking for 27 years mind you so patience and perseverance are required. It sounds like you have a good workplace and six weeks in you should be getting to know your work colleagues. I still don't have my Christmas tree up yet so you are definitely keeping the show on the road while working FT. Congratulations. Wishing you a very happy Christmas and hope 2019 is a great one for you. Love your blog and hope you can keep it up. Love Janiebabe x

    1. Janie, so far so good, as evidenced by my VERY late responses to comments! We won't talk about Christmas trees. I'm calling mine The Easter Tree. Yes. You're correct. It's still up...lol...lol..lol...

  8. Hi Mimi, I love the necklaces. I have set myself a challenge to make one piece of jewelry for myself in 2019. I had to break it down to a such a small challenge because the last couple of years I have written that I would like to learn jewelry making and have not made even one piece.

It's great that you have started a new job this year. I took the plunge and changed jobs last year after being with the same employer for over a decade. It is good to move outside one's comfort zone and stretch and grow.

    1. Sherri, this is truly 'out of my comfort zone', but it's been so very rewarding. I think it's a good goal to learn a new skill each year. I write of this often. I hope you fulfill your dream of learning to make jewellery. How lovely to have you visit. Mimi xxx

  11. Dear Mimi, Merry Christmas to you and your family. Thankyou for sharing, I have benefited so much from your blog - I just "got" something else - if we do the best we can with what we have, we will be prepared for whatever comes. Look at all the work you did with your wardrobe and dressing yourself, then a job comes along and you all prepared, perhaps you may have hestitated or felt less confident or the opportunity my not have come up at all. All your other systems have helped it be a smoother transition - Well Done You!! May 2019 bring even more blessings your way, Clare

    1. Clare, you know, I've pondered that often. I could not have foreseen this outcome, and yet, as you say, I was prepared. I think it's a little of that 'manifestation' that is spoken of in some books. Perhaps it's just being 'prepared'. I guess we'll never know. But nonetheless, it was a happy set of circumstances for sure! I read your comment a while back but did not have time to respond and I agree. Had I not invested some time, energy and effort into SELF, I would possibly not have accepted this new role. You are very astute. I hope you are all well. Love, Mimi xxx
