So it will be ham and chicken and a choice of salads finished off with perhaps a pavlova and fruit. It is usually too hot to bother with anything fussy as we don't have aircon so there is no way I am putting the oven on to cook lunch. They're a very similar theme. Yes, your lemons and all the beautiful ways you use them...a beautiful example. And what you've said before that just because a thing is functional, doesn't mean it has to be ugly. That has really stuck with me too. A beautiful comment. Thankyou. I think what has happened is that we live so affluently these days, that the whole idea of a 'treat' has been dreadfully diluted. It's by having these little things ONLY at Christmas that we maintain their special-ness. I'm glad you enjoyed the post. It's an important theme for me. We don't need to economise harshly these days, yet we seem content with less. It's an odd thing. Thanks for the lovely comment. It reminds me of acres of diamonds...
My friend have me an enormous amount of giant juicy lemons yesterday. They are my orchids for today. Lemon butter, lemon scented cleaning products, beautiful lemon iced water in a pretty jug with some mint leaves from the garden... and so on. I was just thinking about my Christmas table too. I will get onto that and use what I have to make a lovely table.
I love this whole concept and using what we have, making the most of what comes our way. So inspiring! I absolutely agree that it should be a special meal, with effort put into it. But it doesn't mean you need to have so many options that you can't actually fit them all on your plate, or so many leftovers they can't be stored in the fridge. My kids would be thrilled with the jars of lollies on the table you mentioned! And Christmas crackers are fun, plus they can made at home cheaply if you want to save money. It's as much about the little extras as the main meal I think, for us it's the only time of year we have sparkling grape juice, and it's a treat for the kids and adults!

These are such valuable posts Mimi, I'm sure they are helping lots of people :)
JenJenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00588810044069936285noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7492903313028603031.post-83606107339392083172015-12-10T09:53:06.812+10:002015-12-10T09:53:06.812+10:00I love this Mimi!
